He is someone one who enjoys life and loves people. Perhaps this is the secret of the playful ease with which Ralf Schuppan manages to hit the nerve, inspire and create enthusiasm. Like almost no other, he knows how to get things straight. No frills and without beating the bush, unperturbed by what is happening around him. This is the best way to describe what makes his work so successful. Whether working as a leader for big brands and agencies in Germany or for himself since 2012, the designer remains true to himself to this day.
Others recognize the exceptional talent of the native Thuringian at an early age. Ralf Schuppan starts his career in Hamburg. With his workbook under his arm, not only do doors open quickly, but also the way to the very top. For Scholz & Friends, the Schaffhausen Communication Group and others, he was soon to be responsible for major projects for well-known brands such as Southern Comfort, West Reemtsma, L'Oreal and others. His campaign concepts and story boards are unprecedented in their nature. »Timeless and, at the same time, ahead of their time« is the concurring opinion of customers and management. Shortly before joining the board of one of the leading agencies in Germany, he decides to move to Bavaria and do his own thing. Typical for creative minds like him.
Practice makes perfect …
His penchant for music and art is evident in early childhood. As a boy, Ralf Schuppan spends all of his time with drawing, arts and crafts as well as acting.
His finds exactly what he is looking for in the showcase workshop of a friend's grandfather; a respected movie poster painter. A fascinating world full of canvases, billboards, paper and colors that will never let him go. He begins to collect product labels and traces and draws everything he can get his hands on. Driven by the constant desire to experiment, he soon turns to wall-sized oil paintings and airbrush designs on his friends’ cars.
From engeneering draftsman to high flyer
Ralf Schuppan begins his career as a communications designer by training as a mechanical draftsman. After successful completion, he then actually becomes a sign and light advertising manufacturer - with distinction: not the only one in his career.
The surprise is big, when he presents himself to the Hanseatic Academy for Marketing and Media with his work samples. Their quality enables him to start immediately in the higher semesters. And although he already works as an illustrator for the big names in the advertising industry parallel to his design studies, Ralf Schuppan ends his academic education prematurely as the best in his class. At this time, the internationally renowned designer and artist Prof. Dr. h.c. Shan Fan, co-founder and president of the Brand Academy - Hamburg University of Design and Communication. Ralf Schuppan is not only inspired by him, he also exhibits together with Shan Fan.
Ralf Schuppan is soon to have every opportunity open to him in Hamburg’s advertising world. And he feels like a »fish in the water«. Starting at one of the largest creative forges in Germany, he quickly succeeds in leaping to the top. Countless campaigns, which he successfully launches for the renowned agency over the next few years, bear his unmistakable signature. Ralf Schuppan is about to take over the creative management, but he follows his instinct in search of a new challenge. He finds it in the south of Germany and establishes Schuppan Creative Solutions, his own agency, in 2012. In 2019, he moves the company’s headquarters to one of the most prominent locations in Cologne.
Ralf Schuppan now appreciates how important it is to change perspective every now and then; not only professionally but also privately as a pilot, when he sits in his plane and can look at things completely undisturbed from above.
